2. Has the database benefit you in your learning process?
Yes. Although I do not use this database very frequently for assignment purposes. This database is a good source of articles and news regarding the latest development in science. This is relevant for my course in Medical Biotechnology. However, nature.com is a good source of articles and journals when used to its full capacity.
3. Does the database suit you or any other programs and why?
This database is well-tailored for those in my programme, Medical Biotechnology, as it provides lots of research articles and journals on the latest news in medical, and biological science. As shown in the pictures above, this database also caters to students and teaching staffs of other disciplines and fields. Monthly publications are also available for subscription at a fee. However, due to their monthly issues, current and previous research topics are easy to obtain.

Database Review by Library PTS (Part Time Student Librarian) - Utilizing British Pharmacopoeia (BP)
Review by Tan Ying Jie
Click the image above to access the database
1. Which feature(s) I like the most about the database?
a. The most updated version of British Pharmacopoiea can be accessed by free.
Browsing contents
b. Besides, this database consists of table of content which enable us
to search the information we want easily. From the table of content, we
can also see that this database is equipped with information of various
type of medicinal and pharmaceutical substances. In addition, there is
also British Pharmacopoeia for veterinary which is very useful for
veterinarian.
c. For the formulated preparations: general monographs, there are some
explanations on the general pharmaceutical terms and some related
information on each dosage form. For instance, capsules are described in
term of their definition, types of capsules, production, tests, storage
and even labelling. This features are very useful for us especially
pharmacy students on the knowledge to prepare drugs in various dosage
forms.
For the formulated preparations: specific monographs, the lists of drugs
are arranged based on alphabetical order as below which is very
convenient for us to search our drug of interest if we have forgotten
the drug name.
List of drugs
d. Furthermore, we can type in the drug we want to find at the search
box too to speed up our searching progress. For example, we want to
search Paracetamol, all the dosage forms related to Paracetamol
preparations such as tablets, capsules, oral solution, oral suspension,
suppositories and so on will come out together in the list. Hence, we
can choose our drug of interest easily and precisely. Each drug with
different dosage forms will have different actions, procedures for
preparation, precaution steps and so on.
Information regarding the drug
e. Apart from that, we can search by dosage forms also whereby all the
related dosage forms will come out upon searching so that we can compare
the preparation for different drugs with the same dosage form. For
example, when we search for simple ointment, all the ingredients and the
extemporaneous preparation will be shown just with one click.

2. Has the database benefit you in your learning process?
Yes, this database had provided various knowledge on pharmaceutical products and the correct ways on extemporaneous preparation which enable me to equip myself to become a better pharmacist in future.
3. Does the database suit you or any other programs and why?
Yes, this database suits me and all students who take Pharmacy programme as this database contains very detailed and reliable information on pharmaceutical products and preparations. Besides, it is also very useful for Semester 3 Pharmacy programme who have to take extemporaneous preparation exam as that exam will follow the protocol in British Pharmacopoeia.
4. Would you recommend this database to your colleagues and why?
Yes, because we will need to do extemporaneous preparation in future especially in clinical settings. Hence, we can familiarize ourselves with knowledge in extemporaneous preparation before hospital posting. Besides, we can also revise back all the information related to Pharmaceutics that we had learnt before from time to time.

1. What I like about the book?
This book contains plenty of information regarding the most contemporary implant practice, which is invaluable given that implant dentistry is the fastest growing development in current dentistry. Moreover, the fact that this book is suitable for novice clinicians who wish to understand more about latest developments in implant dentistry, and also experienced clinician who wish to update themselves with the latest ridge site augmentation techniques and technologies. As with all good books, this book is equipped with colourful, illustrations taken from real life clinical scenarios so that we would not have to paint the picture ourselves. The chapters are divided in such a way that the flow is smooth and continuous, with knowledge from one chapter laying the groundwork for the subsequent chapter. For example, the chapter revolving around soft tissue augmentation is followed up the next step in the clinical protocol of implant dentistry: soft tissue development with interim or permanent implant restorations.
2. Brief content of the book.
This book is specifically devoted to 1 aspect of implant dentistry rather than an overview of the principles and practice of everyday implant therapy. As the name implies, implant site development, prior to the placement of implant or in fact, even preceding the drilling of bone to receive the implant is the major focus here. The book starts off with anatomy of the implant site to get readers accustomed to the nomenclature used, and then dives deep into business by introducing readers to the method of diagnosing the proper case so that the proper implant site development methods, namely guided tissue regeneration, socket preservation techniques and distraction osteogenesis can be matched to the corresponding cases. Next, the individual components of each technique is explained in depth. There is also a chapter that integrates orthodontics with implant dentistry, wherein orthodontic treatment is utilized to optimize space and position to place a dental implant. Chapters about interdisciplinary management like this is very conducive to a more holistic treatment for our patients.
3. Does it suit you or any other programs and why?
Being a fifth year dentistry student, I can steadfastly say that this book is catered only to dentistry students. Implant dentistry is gaining pace and it is only right that future dental practitioners like the up and coming dentistry students to be accustomed to the practice of implant dentistry. Dentistry students from third years onwards might find this an invaluable reading material. The reason that I do not advocate this book to the more junior students is because as aforementioned, the book is written for both novice and experienced clinicians, but clinicians nonetheless. A certain degree of experience in clinical practice will greatly enhance your understanding. Students from other programs will not find this book an entertaining read, and there are plenty of other reading materials relevant to their field of study both in library and our e-learning portal.
4. Would you recommend this book to your colleagues and why?
Yes, I would advocate this book to all my batch mates, who will be graduating soon and step into the world as professional dental practitioners. This book will be indispensable to our understanding of the fastest growing prospect in current dentistry. Moreover, I would also advocate this book to all my lecturers, as implant dentistry is not a standalone discipline, but involving and integrating the practice of periodontics, oral surgery and prosthodontics. This is especially true for the oral surgeons, because implant site development involves sophisticated surgical techniques that are the bread and butter of oral surgeons, such as distraction osteogenesis. Lastly, I would advise all my colleagues and aspiring dental students to keep this book in mind, as implant site development is a rare topic to be discussed so heavily about and the knowledge from this book will open up the full potential of implant dentistry and allow cases that are usually deemed unsuitable for dental implants to be feasible after the correct implant site development treatment.

1. What I like about the book?
I like that the book is very comprehensive and informative. It contains a massive amount of up-to-date current understanding of forensic medicine. Also, the book is written in such an organized way with simple English, making it very readable. Many chapters are covered in great details with at least 10 references.
2. Brief content of the book.
There are chapters on substance misuse, child abuse, sexual abuse, investigation of death and injury which are very relevant to our curriculum. On top of that, chapters such as the doctor in court, custody medicine physical conditions and psychological conditions discuss the legal responsibilities of a general practitioner are very interesting and engaging.
3. Does it suit you or any other programs and why?
It suits medical students, no doubt. However, I am reserved when it comes to students from other courses. All in all, I would say it is a captivating book. If you enjoy TV shows such as CSI and Bones, and would like to make sense of the things they do and say in the shows, this could be your book!
4. Would you recommend this book to your colleagues and why?
Yes and no. It depends on what one is aiming to achieve. For instance, if you were targeting to pass exam, lecture notes would be sufficient. However, I personally feel that this book is very helpful if one wishes to polish his forensic knowledge. Also, be prepared to take days or even weeks to finish this book due to its heavy content.
